Mrs. Harrington

Please come to a kick off event "The Kentucky Derby Dunk" at the Bath YMCA pool on Sunday Oct 25 from 12:00-1:30 to help raise money for all of our 3rd and 4th graders to learn to swim or improve their skills.  There will be a variety of fun swim events that kids can team up with Morse High School "steeds" to compete in so bring your suit.  Fee is $5.00 per child or $15.00 for the whole family.  Please lend your support for our efforts to get our youth into swim lessons and help make water associated activities safer for health, for life, for fun!

Please call Beth Harrington at WCS for more information at 443-9739 ext. 218.

Wellness Policy
As you may have heard or read, our children are becoming increasingly overweight and sometimes obese at an alarming and epidemic level both State wide and nationally.  We at Woolwich have recognized this huge issue and have developed a wellness policy that focuses on exercise and healthy food choices  for our students.  It is our hope that positive role models both at home and at school will assist our students in making healthy choices both in food decisions and increased activity.
We have many celebrations in the near future from Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc.  where you may feel compelled to cook and send into school those attractive  cupcakes and "interesting " scary pastries for Halloween, etc.  We are asking you, however, to support our initiative for healthy food choices for all our students by sending in delicious veggie platters and  healthy snacks for these holiday treats.  Help us help your children in becoming healthy and productive Woolwich citizens.
Thanks. Mr. Soule and the Wellness Committee
Sincerely,   The Wellness Team Members - Ellen Beal, Beth Harrington, Roberta Sherwood, Darcy Emerson, Tom Soule, Zach Holbrook, Elliot Crews, Addie Beach

Dr. Reed/Health

Dear Parent or Guardian:
We are delighted to introduce you to the comprehensive health, substance abuse and violence prevention program in which your child will be participating this year. This program, THE GREAT BODY SHOP, will help your child learn more about his or her own body and how to take care of it. The program is a team effort involving you, your child, the teacher and members of the community.
At the beginning of every month,, your child will bring home a Parent's Bulletin. The Bulletin will give you suggestions on how to reinforce at home the topic your child is learning in the classroom.
In grades one through six, children will receive their own copies of THE GREAT BODY SHOP each month. The topics include nutrition, illness prevention, drug and alcohol prevention, safety, etc. Each unit contains information to help your child understand his/her own body, the way it works, and the best ways to keep it healthy. The teacher will discuss each unit of THE GREAT BODY SHOP in depth with the students throughout the month and will guide them in activities to reinforce the Lessons contained in each unit.
We ask that you talk about the lessons learned in THE GREAT BODY SHOP with your child There is suggested reading for you and your child in the student material, Parents' Bulletins and Teacher's Guide. In addition, each Teacher's Guide unit contains Parent/Child Activities. These are designed to be done at home by you and your child together, signed and returned to the school. These activities will help keep you aware of what your child is studying and are intended to spark discussion.
If we all act as a team to reinforce the messages of THE GREAT BODY SHOP, this program can go a long way toward helping your child make the kind of decisions about his/her body that will keep him/her healthy, drug free, and ready to meet the challenges of the future.
